bio
Mr. Kohnen is a multimedia producer, Emmy Award winning audio engineer, sound designer, adjunct professor of music and recording arts, and musician and performing artist. He earned a bachelor's degree in Communications and Media Management from San Diego State University, and is currently working toward a masters degree in music technology from Southern Utah University.
As lead audio engineer for the PBS/NPR affiliate in San Diego for over 19 years, Mr. Kohnen has managed (4) recording studios, and served as project manager for productions ranging from Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble and San Diego Opera; to the 2008 Presidential Conventions.
He has two decades of professional experience in most disciplines of audio engineering: TV and radio broadcast (live and recorded), studio engineering, location sound, sound design, scoring films, producing records, and more.
As an adjunct professor of music and recording arts at San Diego City College for seven years, he has developed curriculum to engage students, and written grants to bolster the music program.
As a recording and performing artist, Mr, Kohnen has been nominated for Best Hip Hop Album twice, and Best Jazz Album as well. He’s been active in the Hip Hop and electronic music communities for over a decade. Mr. Kohnen owns and operates AMFM Music, which specializes in custom music and sound design for all types of productions. He is a creator and curator with a passion for using music to elevate a story, enhance an experience, and entertain.
